I have never custom ordered a car before. So some questions
Is the discount from MSRP negotiated at time of placing the order.
Is the order firm after placing a deposit ? Will there be changes to cost when the car arrives?
What is the expected discount amount for a 2017 C300 4 matic in the Portland Oregon area ?
Finally is the discount from ordering generally better than buying one off the lot?

You can lock the discount off MSRP when the order is placed, however if you're leasing the prevailing rates and incentives when you take delivery apply. If you're financing, the rates also may change slightly between order and delivery.
On the deposit, if you're not ordering anything unusual, it should be refundable. My build was for a loaded car and I wouldn't stick them with that and walk, but generally it's refundable.
I felt a 10% discount was fair on a build and they had no problem with that.
