Depends where you live, how cold it gets, and how much snow you expect.

All seasons are, at best, a compromise tire. I live in a cold and snowy environment, and wouldn't go through any winter without four dedicated snow tires on the car.

I recently took a rally driving course and one of the topics was tires. The instructor referred to all season tires as "no seasons." He was not kidding.

My mom lives in NH and I know what you are talking about. I wouldn't want to drive around up there without winter tires. Unfortunately I will find out what it's like at some point this year.

I swear by snow tires. That being said, the continentals are pretty darn good in the snow. Mine have about 6500 miles on them and they did way better than I expected. I may ride them out through the winter.
