C220d Fuel Economy

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone has had any issues with the c220d fuel consumption?

My 66 plate w205 seems to just do as it pleases and the main dealer has no idea what the problem is.

When I first collected the car, I was averaging about 38mpg and I didn't think this was correct. I could barely reach 45 on a long run driving at 60mph!
I reached 3000 miles and overnight the car transformed with the next day seeing over 50mpg on a normal drive to work and I even achieved 70mpg on my way home from Birmingham sat at around 60mph on the motorway with little traffic.

I was convinced the problem had sorted itself and the dealer shook it off as something bedding in (overnight? I doubt it!).

My fuelly account tracked the average sharply increasing to 52.2mpg over a good 1000 miles which I thoughthink as great with a mix of driving.

I got in it a week ago, and all of a sudden I'm back down to achieving less than 40mpg on a run driving as carefully as possible. It seems like the car just wants to drink fuel!

If I'm travelling at 30mph and go up a slight incline (I do this every day to work), the mpg drops to around 20mpg from 45mpg but when the car is 'behaving' itself it used to only drop down to about 45mpg from around 65/70. I can't understand why it has suddenly lost its good economy again!

I've got photo stills of the car taken by a passenger with me sat at 60mph on a flat road in the same place and one day it was doing 45mpg and on a different day nearly 70.

Any help would be gratefully received!

Regards,
Toby
