How did this break?

Noticed today that whilst detailing the car that there's bit of plastic under the right rear floor mat. Looks like a little trim piece from the front seat railing mounting point (at the rear).

I hardly ever have people riding in the back and would also doubt that feet could break the piece, so I'm left contemplating how this failure occurred. The only thing I can think of was last year the car had the whole centre tunnel ripped out to fix a wiring harness - maybe it happened during that .

The same part on the right side of the seat also has a crack but is still in one piece. Has anyone else seen this kind of failure? I'm wondering how the dealer would view this - probably not something they're willing to cover under warranty I'm guessing.

If anyone know the part number please let me know.
Cheers.

Personally that looks like the weight of those in the seats has cracked the plastic. I'd speak with the dealer as it's clearly failed under the metal seat rail.

Thanks guys but the part doesn't break in relation to the seat. The rail is hard mounted to the chassis and nothing there moves with weight. Although it looks like it, the plastic doesn't actually sit underneath the rail - rather it just simply slides over the sides of the rail (I'm guessing it's just there for cosmetic purposes to act like a trim piece to cover the exposed rail). My suspicion is that they flexed the carpet back during the above mentioned repair work and that snapped the inside piece.

Anyone who gets their wiring harness replaced due to the leaking air-con condenser fault or centre tunnel/console removal should keep an eye out for this.

I'll take it up with the dealer - see what they say.

I had that on a 204 and I suspect that for some reason, the seats had been out and the fitter tried to remove the trims before loosening the seat rails.

The parts were only a few GBP for all 8 as on the 204, each trim is in 2 halves which interlock.

I recently broke the same part on my 203. a lighter was caught in the seat rail and when the passenger moved the seat back it wedged and the plastic lost.
