Service B price?

B Service
I had the B service performed on my C400, including a brake fluid change, for about $470 here in Los Angeles (including a loaner C Coupe). The prices for a B service without the brake fluid change ranged from approximately $450 to $580 at other local dealers. Huge disparity. Hope that helps.

I'd also suggest using the term more common term of "USD" for U.S. Dollars when referencing currency, though "USA" does get the point across...

My SA tells me that a Service A takes an hour to an hour and a half, and that there's no Star Diagnostics included; B takes 3 hours and includes "extensive diagnosis". $586 less a $100 online coupon, appointment booked....

I did service B this past Saturday, $570 + tax including brake fluid service which is horrible: When I just drove off the service department I felt the brake travel is longer than before, but thought maybe it is still within the limit. About half way home the red brake warning light turned on. Didn't return to them as I knew technicians all left after 5PM. Drove slowly home and checked the brake fluid level, nothing! Immediately called the service consultant and he really apologized. Today I started engine and found I couldn't shift it into R; realized it is a designed safety feature. Service dept told me to call MB road service to tow the car to them. I like to get some genuine MB brake fluid from the dealer but if anything wrong later it will be my fault as I "did" the service. too busy at work, have to wait till next Saturday if I call MB road service for towing.

Thank you blizzard12 for the quick post. Yes I got mad on the phone call to this consultant, saying this is a serious safety issue. I have to quickly down shift at highway speed, of cause it won't be as quick as the normal braking.
I was thinking to hold the credit card payment for the itemized brake service portion, but I can't do that if they fixed it later...

You guys are nuts if you are paying those prices. I source all service parts OEM and it doesn't run me more than $90 for an oil change including labor.

I'm a newbie and interested in the C300. What dealer in the Bay Area did you have your B service? It does not seem to be a good service to me.Other than that, how do you like the car so far? Thanks.

Sorry I didn't check the forum often. I used Autobahn Motors where my C was purchased. I used one time the MB dealer in San Jose, Capitol Expressway(?), one time at Fremont MB dealer, and the MB Stevens Creek who screwed up this time, and I will NEVER use them again; one time is enough to lose confidence with them.
I like the car VERY MUCH in general. I am picky and there is always something I could find out. The rear left door was not flush with the body panel so dealer adjusted it to flush but it needed more force to close it. When idle, I can hear a noticeable but smooth whining sound. I don't quite like my black interior absorbing heat in summer, but there wasn't much choice six years ago with the package/options if I chose lighter color.

Thanks for the info. It's good to be picky when you pay that much for the car. I am waiting for the price to come down a bit more so I can buy. The problem is the MY 2018 will come with the 9 G transmission, which I'd love to have.Did you have a good deal for your car? I'm hoping for 12% off from MSRP.

My out the door price is like $39,500. I forgot what % off the MSRP, only remember out of four MB dealers, Autobahn Motors gave me the best price.

Having submerged my Tacoma half way up the doors on multiple occasions, I never had moisture in my brake system

I mean I understand the core market for an MB is more in the realm of Ned Flanders as opposed to Paul Bunyan, so the vast majority of the market has A) the financial means to not give an F about $300-800 and doesn't have B) the mechanical inclination to learn and get their hands dirty for something as simple as an oil change. To each their own, but I'll never spend that kind of money when I'm technically capable. I'm not a professional mechanic, but we're not maintaining reusable rockets here.

Are you looking for Turbo 4 or V6? I had a few times turbo 4 C class. My impression is it is almost the same as my V6, could be a bit quicker. However, at idle, 4 cylinder can't compare with V6 in their smoothness. My last compare was with the loaner, C300 with AMG package (not a true AMG car). The only thing I missed is smoothness at idle or very low speed. Everything else is much better than my six year old car.

Gonna do my first (for me) MB oil change and cabin filters. Bought OEM parts online, going to get the oil and get 'er done. I can't see paying the dealer the crazy labor costs. Maybe for the brake fluid change, or some MB-specific items...we'll see when the time comes. This will be the second A service for mine. I bought it used after the first B service.

Costco had a 15% off coupon under their auto program (applies to any vehicle at participating dealers. Vehicles don't have to be purchased thru Costco) that took $68 off.
Net price was $383, $400 with tax.
Brake flush was $125 extra - didn't do it as less than 2 years since last flush.
Engine air filter was initially $125 extra but when I questioned this deeper, the dealer checked my VIN and said that my engine (276 code, base 4 cyl Turbo) only needed this at 50K miles. Go figure!
Overall, pretty happy with price, though $60 for wipers seemed pretty high.
Also, got a copy of the service work order - shows exactly what the tech checked. Enclosed.

I drive a 2017 C300 but my previous 2012 GLK350 had the first brake fluid changed after 4 years with 30K miles. Living in the desert with very little humidity gave me confidence the car would be OK. Service advisor wanted to do the change the second year with 13K but didn't push when I told him no. They used to push oil changes at 5K a few years ago blaming dust. I told them no way. The few problems I have had over the years were things you don't service or even realize until it happens. Odd oil leaks from seals that you didn't know were there.

I think the forum is a great platform to share real-world maintenance info - six quick things to be helpful - especially to those new to MB ownership:
1. Maintenance Manual/Schedule - Please be technically aware of MB required and MB recommended service schedule for your Mercedes - go to mbusa.com and download the Maintenance Manual/Schedule from the Owner's Resources section - did you know for your C-Class - for example - there is a recommended rear axle fluid change at 2K/3K miles - and again at 30K - which I have NEVER seen posted here - ever - even by the self-appointed forum C-Class experts. Not having that done does not necessarily void your rear-end warranty - but stuff like that is the owner's responsibility to know how to take care of your Mercedes.
2. 2yr/20K Brake Fluid Flush - please understand the 2yr brake fluid flush is recommended by the brake fluid manufacturer - and that's the reason that item is in the 2yr/20K-multiple Mercedes service intervals. Mercedes would be remiss in NOT informing you what the brake fluid manu recommends - just "maybe" the brake fluid manuf uses that to sell more brake fluid - who knows !
3. Cabin Filters - which are also in the 2yr/20K-multiple service intervals - in "higher humidity" areas MB Tech bulletin recommends change out internal carbon cabin filter in at 10K as pre-emptive service to prevent "old gym shoe" climate control smell
4. Optional Software Updates There can be outstanding campaign's calling for "optional" software updates (engine and/or transmission and/or climate control, etc) which the dealer does not get paid by Mercedes to perform updated UNLESS there are warranty issues that require the update to correct. That said most dealers will perform "optional" updates - without outstanding issues to correct - if the owner asks when your Mercedes is at the dealer for other paid service - again if you ask about other updated and if that dealer is willing to do them while other paid service is being done.
5. Pre-Paid Maintenance : If you are planning to keep your Mercedes for another 30K miles - then often you can save a bit by asking about 3yr/30K prepaid maintenance - especially when going into a 2yr/20K mile "B" service interval. You can choose to purchase pre-paid maintenance PRIOR to service check-in - after service check-in that day technically you can only by future pre-paid maintenance. the 3yr/30K pre-paid pack going into a 2yr/20K B service will give you B-A-B which can save a sizeable bit more if you plan to keep another 3yrs/30K+ miles. Do not overbuy pre-paid maintenance - prepaid maintenance is normally not refundable and is not transferable to another MB or transferable to another owner. Have a clear understanding on exactly what maintenance items are covered by that pre-paid maintenance plan - for your service intervals you are purchasing that plan for - before you buy that plan. Refer to the maintenance manual/schedule for your MB.
6. 50K Spark Plug Change : Please be aware recommended spark plug change is at 50K miles - in addition to 50K A-service - for all current generation Direct Injection engines - and not 100K miles as was older higher milestone for fresh plugs on older non-DI Mercedes engines. If considering purchasing pre-paid maintenance to cover you thru that 50K mile plateau - before you purchase that pre-paid maintenance plan have a clear understanding from your dealer if that spark plug change is covered by pre-paid maintenance or not.

Did it myself...got a new tool out of the deal, bought the motive power brake bleeder with all attachments for $135 now have it for all my vehicles. I buy the oem parts at eeuroparts.com and mobil oil on Amazon. I also keep all receipts for warranty purposes.
This is too easy to pay dealer pricing.
