Well it must be necessary as their blurb says it replaces the "Weak plastic factory pipe which can blow up under high boost pressure"...
Pretty sure zero instances of the plastic pipe failing from the low boost pressure the factory ECU governs the car too..
Still being Alu, another heat sink in the intake system can only help..

Yeah, I don't see it doing anything much other than provide some bling.
Gotta take a look at the stock one to see if there are any resonators built in. Otherwise I hard plastic piece might actually be better off.
