C220 Diesel Engine
Hi guys
I am new this forum and Mercedes so please be gentle with me.
I am looking at the c220d auto AMG line for my next (Company) car. I love both the exterior and interior styling apart from the tablet style nav but I can live with that.
My concern is the c220d engine. I have yet to find a review online that fails to mention how noisy and unrefined the diesel engine is. Is it really that bad or are they just looking for things to criticise?
I am not expecting it to be whisper quiet, after all its a diesel engine but I would expect some form of refinement in the cabin for a prestige car like this.
Any current owners out there who can share comments. I would be very grateful.
Also I understand the ride will be firmer because of the AMG line suspension but i assume it will be no worse than the M Sport or S Line equivalent.
I will try to get a test drive at some point.
Thanks in advance.

The 671 engine in the 220CDi is gruff under acceleration. On the cruise it is quiet. It certainly doesn't compare well with the best, but I find it acceptable.

I think it's the OM651 in the C220d/C250d:

MB C220CDI Staion Wagon 2017 4-Matic
I got my new car 4 Days ago and have been driving it 300km, it's an C220CDI Station Wagon 4-matic 2017, and i do not Think the Engine sounds as an diesel @ all, cruising it's hard to hear it and during acceleration it sounds muscular, even outside the car @ idle it's not that loud.
My latest cars Before this counting backwards are BMW X4 2.0D, BMW X3 2.0D, BMW 320XDT, BMW X3, and they sounded very much more like an diesel, hard knocking @ idle outside the car and the older ones also during acceleration, the latest BMW have been better but not as good as this C220CDI.

I agree with the above posters. When cruising you hardly hear the engine at all. It sounds way less then my old volvo s60 atleast. The ride is firm but not too stiff, i love it. Have the amg package.
