C400 - gauge cluster dimmer
My cluster dims sometimes, and other times not. Lights are in auto mode.

Should they dim all the time, or maybe only when the exterior lights are on?

It depends on light levels. In the day there's a single intensity. At dusk/night it goes dim according to how you set the level. A bit unusual by that's MB for you.
