New Rubber

So after a "seriously Pirelli 13k miles and bald?" experience I've opted to go the non run flat route and ordered and just received The new Michelin pilot sport 4s Which not 100% sure but think is the replacement of the super sport or just the next gen of the tire. Reviews say better wet dry grip, better wet dry breaking quieter and a 30k mile warranty (Pirelli take notice) so got my appointment made for Monday for install and alignment.

So interested to see how much better if at all the ride gets

You will be pleasantly surprised. The 4S running at correct pressure completely transforms how the car drives.

No place had them around me some didn't even have them in their system yet Costco could only get 1 rear so looking online discount tire had them for the best price including shipping and got them in 2 days.
Got the same size as oe 225 40 19 and 255 35 19
Careful when buying as I found that when you plug your car info in on a lot of the sites even Costco the rears come up as 245/40/19 and I know that my baby needs and wants those extra 10mm in the rear

What will you do now in case of a flat since you'll be running conventional non-run flat tires?

I'm also interested in hearing how you feel the cornering with those new tires will be since the sidewall will not be as stiff as a run flat tire.

I purchased something like in the link below, to keep in the trunk. WIth that AAA Mbrace and Amex Roadside assistance I feel I'm covered. Also have the tire wheel warranty which covers any rubber on the car. I'm always in populated areas so that also lessens my concern.

Reading- it looks like going non run flats also really helps with the ride so right now think I made a good decision.
Probably over kill with the sport 4s tires versus going with something like the MXM4 but for the one time I decide to drive it like I stole it or better yet if someone else does I can watch the police chase on TV and admire how well the car holds its line as it weaves through traffic at 120mph

What's the correct pressure for 4s?

I just went with the pressures on the fuel door. You could probably adjust for the OEM tires load rating vs. the 4S load rating if you really want to go crazy.

Most insurance now covers towing... So really no need to worry about getting a flat.

If you think all tyre dealers stock the run flats that came with your vehicle you are quite mistaken. Like others I have been unable to drive my car for up to 48 hours over a weekend.

A Seal & Fill kit is a reliable alternative to a jack and spare. We just got a new Q7 with conventional tires and I was surprised to see no spare or jack and an Audi branded seal and fill in the back.

My comment related to the purchase of conventional tires. Which, I believe tire dealers have quite a few of those in stock or can patch quite easily.

Exactly...

Good luck finding runflats that fit the W205 when out in the boonies. As for towing, keep your fingers crossed as well a flatbed tow truck is available if you have 4Matic.

On long trips I stuff one of my spare front wheels in the trunk just in case.

Unless it's a total disaster of a towing company, they will have tow dollies available for awd vehicles, which can be used if a regular tow truck is only available.

FYI, the 30,000 mile warranty is probably actually 15,000. Since the tire sizes are staggered and you can't rotate front to back, it's usually cut in half.

16k is actually pretty good for this car! Especially the rears!

I'm just happy these have a warranty even if it is 15k miles that 2k more than I got with the Pirelli p zeros.
After driving on the new Michelin rubber it is a night and day difference I should have listened to many on this forum who took the RF's off right after delivery. The ride is dramatically improved the cabin is much quieter and best part is I got them mounted balanced and an alignment for free.

Tire shop tried to hustle me and called them out. Wanted to do under the table deal said if I didn't it would cost me about $600 yup this includes a tire dismounting fee of $40 a tire a mounting fee of $30 a tire balancing at $15 a tire. Craziness. so after getting ready to call their corp headquarters all of a sudden it was our mistake it's on us have a great day!
Kept telling me it cause I have a Mercedes and it takes a specialized process to mount and dismount tires
Gotta love Miami

All tires have the PSI recommendation on their sidewalls. Easy-peasy

Being late to a funeral, missing a flight, or being attacked by a pack of wolves would be completely worth it when you consider you don't have to drive on RF's or compromise your trunk with a spare tire.

I've contemplated getting a spare for any long haul road trips.

I hope you are not trying to say that the max tire pressure listed on the tire sidewall is the recommended pressure.

WRONG.

I guess you can't read.

Yes you get towed. But once you car is towed you still have to find a tyre shop, get the run flat in stock and get it installed.

Run flats are a crock and anyone who values a quiet and more comfortable ride has swapped out for non flats already.

I do not see the advantage in runflats.

the only time they are remotely useful is when you have a nail - but even then most tires are loosing pressure so slowly that you will be able to get somewhere.

The ideal tire in terms of practicality are the self sealing type. Basically a conventional tire with a layer of encased sealing material. If it's punctured the sealing is released and forced into the area by internal air pressure. I haven't had a chance to try them. I've had the Pilot Supersports on the past five cars, probably 200,000 miles traveled and I've yet to have a flat.
