Park your Mercedes Benz in Neutral, is it possible ?
Hello,
I am wondering if it is possible to park your Benz in Neutral to be able to push it when engine is turned off ?
Thank you for your replies.

Because you were in the car.
As soon as the door is opened it changes to P.
As soon as your stop engine it changes to P.
I just tried it again. But if there is a special situation and I am wrong, I would be happy to learn.

If you open the door, then put it in neutral and lastly turn it off, it will stay in neutral and you can push it around. I just tried it in my 2017 c300 and can confirm that it works.

Not in my 2015 C; it goes into P as soon as you turn off the engine. If I want it to stayed in neutral, I would have to leave the engine on.

It's funny, I was thinking that I was the stupid one asking an easy question, but I can see that nobody actually knows haha :-)

As noted above, it's possible. If the car is already off, turn the ignition back on, but don't start the engine. Put your foot on the brake, & move the transmission stalk up or down to the first detent to put it in Neutral. If you go past the detent, it will go into Drive or Reverse depending on the direction you pushed the stalk. Then disengage the via the button on the bottom left of the dash near your left knee. Now you will be able to push your car. Note you will get a red warning message in the instrument cluster about your car rolling away as shown above in an earlier post.

I guess I'm lucky. When I bought the car, my dealer gave me this book that described in detail how to operate the vehicle. You guys should see if you can get one ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Here's what the manual says (although i'm sure it is not the only way)
If you want the automatic transmission to
remain in neutral N, e.g. when having the vehicle
cleaned in an automatic car wash with a towing
system:
Vehicles with the Start-Stop button:
remove the Start-Stop button from the ignition
lock.
- Insert the SmartKey into the ignition lock.
All vehicles: switch the ignition on.
- Depress the brake pedal and keep it
depressed.
- Shift to neutral N.
- Release the brake pedal.
- Release the electric parking brake.
- Switch off the ignition and leave the SmartKey
in the ignition lock.

Interesting, but it just confirms that it is not possible to lock the car and leave it in neutral.

Another related question...... but the opposite....
If your car breaks down
and the engine wont start, .........how do you put it into neutral ?????????????
The owners manual says to start the engine, and select neutral. WTF

If you want it locked and the gearbox disengaged you will need to do the emergency release of the gearbox, which is a bit extreme. Now mine is an older model being a 2013 with the central shift. If I lift the cover there is a pin to release the lock on the gearbox, no idea how easy it is to re-engage as I have never used it. Its there mainly for getting it onto a tow truck if the vehicle is disabled.
Should be in your manual for your particular car. Its in mine.
If the car was locked I'm not surprised it won't stay in neutral as you will have the steering lock on and therefore no control.

I just got a 2018 C300 and if I shut off the engine without engaging park it is in neutral and will roll if I don't apply the brake pedal. Kind of silly that it doesn't put it in park as it's turning off the engine. I felt really dumb when I was parking to get some coffee this morning and almost got out of the car as it started moving backward.

My battery died and it had to get the energy from another battery in order to put it in neutral. There is no way to that I know of to get it into neutral without power.
