EQC 4matic AMG line Premium Plus replacing S213 220d 4matic with airmatic
Rear Brake Wear

Just had service A3 in a 250d 4matic break. Car has the driving package and airmatic and has covered 39000km. Was shocked to be told it needed new rear brake pads. Have been changing my car every 3 yrs since 1985 and in that time no car has needed brake pads. Surprised too that it is rear as I thought front brakes tended to wear quicker.

The c has needed 2 front tyres as well again not something I normally need to buy.....so maintenance seems quite expensive for this model.

Is my brake pad experience unusual (I know the tyre issue is not)

It seems that the w205 does wear the rear brakes more quickly than the fronts, my sedan has similar kilometres to yours and will need replacement very soon. I think you did very well to get your tyres to last that long, do you drive mainly in the city or rural driving?

Your response makes me feel better! i live in france in a rural location and do short to medium length journeys with occasional motorway use. The roads are generally undulating not hilly and i use the speed limiter all the time outside the few built up areas and now suspect that is a contributory factor. My last car was a glk and in that i used cruise control more only changing to the speed limiter as i discovered it has greater flexibility for the out of town driving here. Might change my driving habits. It is a pain as we expect a new e class to be delivered in 6 weeks....

re the tyres sadly i got a lot less km from them as i run a set of winters too. It was both front needed replacing at about 20km or so. The usual issue wear on the outer edge they are hankook s1 evo 2 summer tyres and it seems very soft but they give a nice ride less harsh than the michelin alpine 5 winters.

This is my experience with pads... Rear last for about 20000km if you live in the city. Front last twice as much, so about 40000km. Also, front discs last shorter than rear ones.
