Okay, but were you expecting? If I tune the engine off on my motor, it rolls forward or backwards depending on which way I'm pointing on a slope when my foot isn't on the brake.

Mercedes C350
Perhaps ypu did not read my question correctly: I said that it was rolling backwards when it was on an entirely straight surface. I guess since there is no
"park" gear on this manual caR, IT is to be exptected. I bought the car used after my Jetta got flooded, and I am not used to a Mercedes. Perhaps I am just a "dumb" woman (ha, ha) and don't know the first thing abut cars. However, I loved my Jetta with the hand brake, and I drove it like a pro. Don't like this hand brake thing, but I love the car.

If the car rolls forwards or backwards in neutral, with park brake off, it means there is a slope, however slight it might be.
Mercedes use an electric parking brake instead of a hand one which is activated by a button. Since you have a 350 C,
I'm guessing this came with a foot activated park brake (W204 or W203). You'll need to use this to prevent the rolling.
If there is a pedal to the left of your clutch, that's the parking brake, else it should be a button on the side of the dash
near the door. HTH
