EQE 500 4MATIC replacing EQC 4matic AMG line P
Thoughts on w205 as i move on

Am taking delivery of my new car tomorrow and thought i would write a note on my c class experience for others.
My c class was a 250d 4matic with airmatic estate french spec. Extras inc hud, intelligent lights, 360 camera and driving assist, burmester may 2015 reg. 40k miles when the car was drowned in a flood in may this year.
The car had 2 failures the drivers seat back cover came adrift in the first month easily fixed while i waited. 2 yrs in the aux battery for the stop start failed. 2 visits 1 to diagnise and order the part 1 to fit. Otherwise the car ran faultlessly no wind noise problems.
Sadly it had 2 accidents before its terminal drowning. I hit a deer front on poor animal was killed the car needed a new grille (traditional one which is available here) and airtake grill around 850 euro.
my other half scraped the passenger side on an entrance gate also taking off the door mirror. Scrape restricted to doors 2900 euro the rear door being completly replaced (not reskinned) i assume due to aluminium construction.
the rear break pads needed replacement at 39500 miles2 new front tyres at 35k but note i run winters so they had only done about 20k. Replaced due to wear on the outside edge.
due to the delay in my new car being deliverd ordered feb i have been driving a 2018 reg c220d (om651) amg trim saloon. The ride is a bit to harsh for my taste and i think airmatic is a better choice for comfort if that matters to you.
the engine is much noisier in this version. The 250 felt smoother and was a lot quieter under acceleration. There is no wind noise issue. The 9gtronic is smoother than the 7gtronic but i had no problems with it though they did carry out a software update early on.
comand in the 220d is much easier to enter destinations in than the garmin system in the audio 20.
overall a really nice car and i was very satisfied but like so many who were here at the beginning i am moving to the e to just get that final level of luxury.
hope this helps others.

Parkwood, thanks for the note and glad to hear you were satisfied. So what's that "final level of luxury?"

After a day with my new e estate i can say for me it is an e class. To try to describe it is hard but essentially the e is just more cosseting and plush. The steering wheel is softer to the touch there is a rubber seal down the edge of the rear door where the front door shuts against it, the dash is a softer material, just lots of little things that add up to a lot.
The c is a very good car and has a more sporty lithe look and feel. The e is heavier in look and feel in driving though nowhere near as heavy as an w211 which was as agile as a sofa😀.
My demand is for luxury and the e meets that better but those wanting sport charateristics may well find the c meets their needs more.
Different models for different tastes and needs both very good cars in my view.

You're still with Mercedes Benz and that's what matters. Enjoy your new wheels.

congrats on your E! it is definitely a step up against the C! did you get it with the new nice infotainment screen with digital instrument clusters etc
Does it have air suspension? How is the ride quality?
I heard the new E engines are good . did you get diesel or petrol?
[sorry for the questions, i'm just very interested in your point of view comparison]

The E is bigger and more luxurious and more expensive but the c is still also a very good car and may suit peoples needs more. At one time i think the e was much more "mercedes" than a c but the w205 changed that and now it is more of mainly a smaller and slightly less luxurious option.
yes i do have the widescreen and it is great and i use the progressive screen option so i have lots of info immediately visible nothing like the traditional dials. Shame they have not included it in the c after the refresh but am sure it will appear in the next version.
the airbody control in the bigger body is softer than in the c and smooths the ride a bit more but the c on air is more comfortable in my view than on steel springs albeit they are not bad. But suspension feel is a subjective preference.
i preferred the old om651 diesel engine in 250 guise. It was a lot quieter. In 220 mode it was much more raucus under acceleration. The new 220 om654 diesel is really good. It feels strong on acceleration and wafts the car up to speed quietly and very smoothly although so far i have not gone above 112kmh.the marriage with the 9gtronic box is superb better than with the old 220 in the c and i was pleased with that. Having moved to a bigger car with a smaller engine i can really say i am not missing the bigger engine thus far. I do not feel a loss of performance. I would qualify here in france the speed limit is a measly 80kmh......
