Apple, Android option how does it work?
1. If Android - download and install Android Auto on your phone 1st - have USB connecting cable for your phone/insert into USB port showing "phones" next to it - plug phone in - start car and start up center stereo/Audio 20 - your Anroid auto should start-up 1st time... follow the prompts on the screen... when in doubt go to mbusa.com website - unders Owners - download pdf Owner's Manual
I have the manual in my hand and downloaded. When I search for android nothing comes up. I read about Audio 20 as well as multimedia. I have my phone hooked up via BT works without issues its just unable to get the android maps on the display using Android auto. I have it plugged into the usb icon with a phone image.

Note. There are usually two manuals. An owners manual (for the car) and a command manual (for the multimedia system).

I have a similar issue in that Android Auto just does not pop up after plugging in my Android phone. I have a 2018 GLC 300.
I know I have smartphone integration because Apple Carplay works just fine.
When I connect my Samsung S9, however, nothing pops up. There is no option seen on the radio menu.
I do have a SD Nav installed. I removed it just to see, but still no Android Auto option. (I do not need to remove the SD Nav for CarPlay to initiate).
Any thoughts?
EDIT: Oh wait, just watched the video in the above posts. Maybe I need to activate it first through the phone menu.
EDIT2: Derp derp, of course that was it. It's different in other manufacturers where you just plug and go.
