C180 W205 Exclusive
Road noice
Living in South Africa where the tar surface might not be as smooth as in europe or the states, and driving a C180 Exclusive fitted with Continental Ssr5 runflat 17 inch tyres.
The road noice is indeed terrible, and have to turn up the radio yust to hear something else. Normal conversations at speed 120+ almost impossible.
Is it the tyres or just w205 issue?

This might not apply to the C-Class, but in my 2015 E-Class I was able to greatly reduce the road noise in the cabin by packing a lot of fiberglass home/wall insulation (from the home center or hardware store) around the spare tire and in the tire well under the trunk floor. In the W212 E-Class, this well is a plastic tub that is bonded to an opening in the trunk floor. As delivered, the car had NO insulation in the plastic tub, and road noise passed into the cabin from there. Once I lined the well with 4-inch thick insulation, it was far quieter.

There are “sound meter” apps available for smart phones. You can measure the sound level in your car and then compare it with the sound level in another car traveling on the same road at the same speed. This may help you decide if your car is much noisier than others. I also have the 17 inch wheels and Conti tires. The noise level is acceptable. I also have a Corvette which was very noisy. There is a large trunk area behind the 2 seats in a Corvette. This large floor area transmits tire noise and drivetrain noise into the cabin. Installation of Dynamat and Dynapad over the floor greatly reduced the noise level.
