Windscreen scratch repair?
Hello, I have c250 and the windscreen has quite a few scratches on it. They aren’t in lines, they are more like dot scratches and it’s difficult for the mrs to see when the sunlight is on the windscreen. They were there when we bought the car so I have no idea what’s cause them. Can this be repaired or worst case scenario what would the price be roughly for a new windscreen? Thanks

Here in the US there are "kits" that have Cerium Oxide (either powder where you add water to make a "paste" - or polish which is already mixed paste) - and buffing "bob's" or "cylinders" to remove scratches - or "pads" if you plan to polish a large area like to remove water spots.

I’m glad I’m not the only one! I thought nobody would have a clue what I was talking about 😂. I’ve never had it with any of my previous cars. It must be some kind of design fault with Mercedes. Do new cars come with a glass/windscreen protection coat?

You know what I mean haha. Mines a 2014 model (I decided to go with premium plus over model year in my budget). It only had 34k miles on it so it hasn’t been driven too much for its age. I’ve found a glass polisher on amazon for £14.99 so I might try that first. I’m gonna get a before and after photo so will post the results.

Ive seen some videos on youtube and it can be done but mostly for line scratches idk about our problem... Hope u can fix it do .. Ive tried to fix it in my country Romania but nobody wanna touch it because they say polishing the windshield is very tricky u can destroy it... I mean u can take more material from one part then the other and by doing that your wipers are not gonna touch and clean the same way .
Etc

[QUOTE=netboy;7690230] for me i pay around 880 euro per year and thats pretty cheap . Fully covered. Original windshield is about 1100 to 1500 euro here in my country i have also head up display lane assist and all others except for night vision. Im gonna wait until spring or summer to damage the windshield so that my insurer can pay for a new one... I know it's not the Christian way to do it but lets be honest they make a **** tone of money anyways from us

Good thing they're not on driver or passenger field of vision, but I can spot them every time the sun shines in that specific area

here is some glass polish:
https://www.eastwood.com/autobody/pl...polishing.html
So so results and yeah takes time and only works on very minor surface scratches. anything your fingernail can feel forget it....
This is like for getting rid very faint scratches from maybe old wipers.
Cheap enough though may be a good project for a saturday on nice day.....
way cheaper then windshield and if you ruin it call insurance and get a new one but take pictures before you start polishing!

With care you can "polish" scratches/lines will a "column" type pad - but "pits" won't polish out.
Some here report "spotting" - which comes from areas with very "hard" tap water leave water spots/discoloration. Often those can be removed with 50/50 vinegar and water.. but sometimes requires "polishing" with 4" specific felt buff pad using the oxide polish

I remember reading on another thread where dealership wasn’t replacing with OEM but Safelite was using OEM. Just a heads up to those of you whose windshields will “accidentally” break.

I wouldn't waste time with any of those polish ideas. Remember that even if the polish will work to the depth of the pits or scratches then that area will be below the level face of the windshield, that will cause a distortion when you look through that area and the wipers will not wipe evenly. So whatever glare or distraction the pits are now they'll be worse after the polishing even if it does work. Not good news but a new windshield is the only way to go and as was said earlier, make sure it's a OEM MB windshield.

I have a aftermarket windshield in my '16 C300. Paid about $350 for it, installed. The auto-on wipers work perfectly but I don't have any of the other add-ons that involve the windshield to work so I can't speak to those. As an aside, I had terrible "juddering" with the original OEM windshield but none whatsoever since the installation of the new one.

mine has many of these apparent scratches, they are short and in random directions. Hard to imagine how they are caused, my vision is not good enough to view them in any detail so I don’t know if they are on the inside, the outside or within the laminate
