Left side steering wheel stalks (wiper, cruise cont, etc) don't light up?

Left side steering wheel stalks (wiper, cruise cont, etc) don't light up?
The left side stalks on my 2016 C300 don't light up like the right side with the transmission controls. The dealer says this is normal.
Seems to me they should have illuminated these controls. My car is still under warranty and I'd want to get this fixed while MB is paying for it.
Not that I don't trust the SA but I figured I'd ask the forum if they could confirm what he said.

You think that's bad-the GLA250 that preceded my C300 did not have lighted dials in the instrument cluster during the day. It was not possible often to see the speedometer or tach. They were lit when the other lights went on at night.
