what the heck is this dongle in OBD2 port?

found this in my wifes 2015 c400....removed it and car didnt recognize the key anymore and said "key not found".

put it back and everything went back to normal.

initially i thought it was lo jack or a tracker of some sort.

can anyone chime in? see pics below.

thanks in advance.

I googled OBD2 DL862 and came up with this:

Looks like some kind of Tracker/Telematics logger.

Also, it looks like there’s an app for that OBD2. Download the app and try and connect to it either thru BT or WiFi. You could prob checkout your boost levels, intake temps, etc.

Try removing it, exiting vehicle and locking the doors. Then just try and enter and start the vehicle like u normally would. Not sure that’ll work but worth a shot. Other option is to remove the OBD2 and the push start button, then try and start the car the old school way of putting the fob in and turning the engine over.

Is this vehicle financed? Could be used by the financier to disable ignition remotely.

i havent tried it, but i believe if i take it out, i can start the car old fashion way by removing the start button and inserting the fob and turning the "key".

A gaggle of MB's
It's a Insurance Tracker - some insurance companies offer "free review" to potentially lower your insurance - they mail you the thing - you self-install - you run it for 3-months - they review you're plan - you send it back - has nothing to do with your ignition/MB

i have one of those, not this brand.
i use it to track when my car started engine and when my car stopped engine. it also has a log to show your trip history.
like what time you arrived at work, what time you left work.
it also can guide you back to your car when you forgotten where you parked.

thanks everyone in the community for all your help :-)

i tried everything as suggested, i was pulling the dongle thing out and trying to start the car and "key not detected" would pop up on the dash screen and i could not press to turn on engine.

i tried starting the car with the thing plugged in and when the car was running, taking it out.

then i got out, locked the car with remote and opened with remote and all went back to normal!
(did all of that with the thing unplugged)

i have the dongle thing in my glove box, but what confused and worried me was the "key not found".

Thanks all for your help...still dont know what exactly this thing was for, seems like it can be used for multiple purposes.
