Anybody know the max width for 18" wheels
I'd like to get a set of 18" wheels for winter driving and haven't been able to determine how wide of an 18" wheel I can fit. I see stock replacement sizes, but ideally I'd like to really fill out the wells with as much tire as possible. Car is a 2015 C400 with sport suspension and currently 19" multi spoke.
Thanks!
Thanks!

No, I really don't. I know what you're saying regarding skinny tires for snow and ice but my goal is cosmetic, all-season performance, and pothole protection from the taller sidewalls the 18" will allow. I want to get as much wheel and tire under there as possible, in an 18" diameter. Ideally a square setup so I can rotate. It's not easy to find out this info, believe it or not. At least, for me.

you need something in the 18x8.5 et40 range w/ a 255/40/18

Hey GJC400, have you found out any more information on running the square setup? I'd appreciate any insight as I am trying to do the same. Staggered setups cut the tread wear in half & I don't like that.
There's a website called Fitment Industries I've seen 4 cars of the W205/C205 platform run a square setup but I don't know how wide we can go with 18" rims. Seems like you can go as wide as 10 on 19". Please ignore the coloring, this is from my own excel document so I can finalize my choices:
Square Setups with 19"'s. Might be the same for 18"s?

18" is the biggest i would go if you're trying to avoid potholes. I have 18" wheels with 235 tires on all 4 wheels and sometimes wish I would have gone for 245 simply for the aesthetics.

Yes, but 18x?? That's the question. I'd like to fit the widest 18" square setup possible, but having a tough time finding 18x8.5 wheels, believe it or not.

Thanks DoorHandle_LED,
I'll be getting Enkei TMS's 18x8x45 with either Michelin PILOT SPORT A/S 3+ or Yokohama AVID ASCEND GT for all 4 wheels.

18x8 opens up lots of options, but the one I was hoping for (wide grippy tires, good amount of sidewall, ability to rotate at home). It may snow a lot a couple times each year around here, but the potholes live forever. The repairs can be worse than the potholes themselves.
With 4matic, I don't exactly need the extra grip from the increased width, but I like the way it looks. I have 40 series 19" tires on the front now, the rear are 35 series. I guess if I want to get wide 18", I'll have to stagger the fitment. Also a bummer. Regardless, thanks for the helpful feedback.

You can run a 18x8.5 et32-35 with a 255/40/18 easily all around (add a 5mm spacer to the rear if you want it to be flush). Anything more than that and you'll rub. If you want to go staggered a 18x9.5 et42-45 with a 285/35/18 will fit the rear. Those are the limits though.

Sorry Alexasa, didn't mean to imply you hadn't responded in this manner. I think I misread your original reply because on what was posted i was thinking "225s aren't wide enough". Not intentional, just brain drained lol.
