Winter Tires/Wheels Questions
I awoke to an inch of snow this morning that's motivated me to line up new winter tires:
- Cabriolet 4matic with 19" wheels (staggered; F 225/40 R 245/35). I'd like to find "econo" winter wheels and am considering whether to get 18s. Width? Offset? Never bought aftermarket wheels before and would appreciate suggestions.
- The Cab on 19s has less than 4" clearance and I'm a little concerned about ice damage to the front spoiler beneath the bumper. Has anyone in snow country experienced this? Can I pick up a little clearance with higher profile tire
- I'd default to Nokian Hakka studded tires because my home is on a hill and has a short but steep driveway but I've read that new rubber compounds for studless winter tires that are pretty good on ice/packed snow and wondered if anyone has tried them.

Tirerack is where I just picked up Pirelli Sotozero 3 RF. You can also get econo wheels there. Just plug in your vehicles year and other specifics and you should get a decent amount of choices. I was able to get an $80 Prepaid Visa with the Pirelli purchase last month.

Like @GreekUPS I took advantage of the TireRack sale for those Pirelli winters. Had them on my 3 series BMW and had great snow traction. Went with 18" square set-up for my 2020 C300.
TireRack will give you all the alternate sizes you can use on your vehicle. Going to 18" will give you a taller sidewall which is good for the winter, but overall ride height will not increase because total wheel diameter is unchanged.
