Am I doing something incorrectly?

The past two mornings it has been cold where I live, my car would not remote start via my cellphone due to the gas mileage being “too low” which, btw, MB’s definition of “too low” is a bit ridiculous. I had 50 miles left in the tank.
I went out and started the car my self to warm up the car’s interior. It would not allow me to lock the car doors with the vehicle running and then when I got in the car to leave it kept saying, “Key Not Detected” “Place Key on Marked Key Holder” the key was with me and when I put the key in the holder it still did nothing. I had to restart the car.

I'll tell you what I've learned on this forum. First, when the gas tank gets that low, the readings can be flaky. The "50 miles" left is very approximate and could actually be anything from 50 to 5. It's not really a bad idea to prevent remote starting that could use up whats left in a low tank while idling. Best to keep at least 1/4 tank full anyway for a number of reasons. After you put more gas in it and verify that your ""Mercedes Me" account is active, try the remote start again. If it fails, see if it unlocks via the phone app.

Not knowing the age of your car, I can't say if the key battery might be dead. If you leave the key in the house but within 25-30 ft of the car while it's parked, the key transmitter constantly pings the car and battery life is shortened quite a bit. Hope this helps.

When it's cold, it's also not good to to run close to empty due to condensation in the tank.

It's is a 2019, 8 months new. The key is not dead, I am going to ask the dealership when I pick up my car from service (all of these rattles and vibrations!) why you cannot lock the vehicle doors while the vehicle is running, theft hazard.

I didn't even think to attempt to see if they would lock with the vehicle running via my app, probably not.

Side note: Another thing I don't care for about MB vehicles is that you have to unlock the doors to open the gas tank then lock the doors while you are pumping gas then unlock them to close the tank. I like the locking gas tank obviously for tamper prevention but it's kind of a pita lol.

A gaggle of MB's
1. On Remote/App Start - your MB will ONLY start if the doors are locked - which you can do from the app. I have locked my Keys in my MB by locking the MB with the App. For Remote Start - I "think" for my C-Class fuel gauge needs to be over 1/4 tank

2. Fuel Filler Door - yes, it locks with the door locks - as a guy - I normally have the key with me so I can keyless/touch unlock/lock with the passenger side rear door.

While we realize that late model vehicles such as this one have factory remote starter coverage, just wanted to point out that our company has the best remote starter coverage available for MB vehicles, and we expect to have coverage for this model and many others at the year's end / in the new year.
We also include several customization options that MB does not offer with their starters. As our tagline states -- The Best Made Better!

Click HERE for current list of coverages, and check back in the coming months for late model coverages!
