If your car didn't come with Android Auto / CarPlay support, very unlikely that MB will add that support using a software upgrade. Which year model? In the US, Android Auto / CarPlay was an option in 2018 and standard in 2019. I know for some other MB model (can't remember which one), MB retroactively enabled Android Auto / CarPlay support after launch but that was an exception I think.
You don't need touch screen for either. You can use the rotary controller to operate either of them and that is what the 2018 and 2019 C-Class do. Only the MBUX variants (not available in W205 C-Class) support touch screen.

To add to that, prior to 2019, the smartphone integration package (Android Auto/Apple CarPlay) as it was called was not compatible with the multimedia package. So if your car is a 2018 and has the multimedia package, then there is no chance for an update. If it doesn't have the multimedia package, then perhaps there is a way to retrofit the smartphone integration package. Not sure if that'd be a possibility for earlier MYs. Starting with 2019, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is standard as mentioned and no longer precludes one from getting the multimedia package and other packages that depend on the multimedia package. The latest COMAND system (NTG 5.5) is updated in many ways and designed for a widescreen. If you haven't seen it yet, the UI looks very similar to MBUX. No touchscreen, but it uses a new online platform (no longer mBrace) and has many of the features that MBUX has. The likelihood of MB offering an update to NTG 5.5 for older models is pretty much zero.

on all pre facelifts without multimedia package (meaning you have smaller 7" screen), oem carplay is possible with hardware change and coding. i do it all the time on 2015-2018 model years. there are also aftermarket solutions out there. pm me if you have questions.

If you love it and have no complains, then it' worth every pennies.
I just plug in the phone to the car and go !
Also google can read and reply or send sms while you driving.
Before i have to manually enter addresses on Garmin gps, it' a pain in the rear and a slow process selecting each letter.

2016 CLA Car Play Info
I just bought a 2016 CLA 250 4matic. We do have the two USB ports in the center console but not sure if the one closes to the passenger door is working. I have been reading these threads but I am more confused than ever about how to get Apple CarPlay to work. I cannot access apps on the display screen (says no internet package). My car release date is 9/2015 and I believe it is C117. What information do I need to know if I can activate CarPlay and get apps to display on screen? Where do I fins this information?

2016 GLE350 4Matic
I need help navigating this as well for a 2016 GLE350 4MATIC that was manufactured in July 2015. It does have the P01 Premium Package (COMAND with navigation, etc.). Unfortunately the original (only prior) owner did not pursue the retrofit that Mercedes offered in 2015 / 2016, and the dealership here is not willing to assist (even though we have been customers for nearly a decade). Thank you in advance.
