Considering C200d Bluetec, general reliability?
After having driven company cars for 20 years the time has come to purchase my own car due to a career change.
I'm looking at a W205 C200 Bluetec estate that's for sale here in Belgium. It's a 2014 diesel model with 60.000Km / 37.000 miles, 136HP, 1.5L engine (Renault?), manual transmission for 16.500EUR / 13.800 GBP. I'd consider adding a chip to upgrade to 160HP.
Car will be used daily for very short commutes, a few longer 50Km trips on weekends and several times per year fully-loaded 3500Km + family vacations to Spain, S-France, Portugal. Yearly mileage estimated around 15.000Km / 10.000 miles.
I've been told this model is somewhat inferior to the C220 because of the Renault engine. Horsepower aside, how much of this is true? How's the general reliability of the car, what kind of costs / problems / repairs can I expect over the next 5 - 10 years? What should I be looking out for before purchasing? Could the wind noise issue (GI72.10-P-061763) apply to this car?
The same vendor has a C220 model for sale with a few more extras but I find it hard to justify the 5000EUR extra, unless of course I'll end up saving that amount over the course of its lifetime due to better reliability.
Many thanks

I recommend C200 AMG line petrol engine. Very reliable. I had it for 2 years. Its a 2015. Around 75,000 km on it. Imported from Germany. I live in Lebanon. So far I changed the main battery, auxiliary battery, and fix an issue with my sunroof. That is it. If you live in a cold country then you dont need a sunroof. I maintain it at MB local dealer.

Go for the 220d
Its a 2.1 double step turbo VS the 200 a smaller engine with a single turbo.
I would say pay a little more and buy a 220d with the 9g automatic.

If this c220 d from the same seller is automatic 7 or 9 G. If it has an AMG line. sporty looks with rims. These are worth 5,000 euro. I will pay this 5,000 euro and stay away from a 1.6 L manual Renault engine. But my recommendation remains C200 AMG line petrol engine 184 HP.

A lot of short trips will cause problems with the DPF not being able to burn off the excess ashes.
The petrol engines use a lot of gas during the first 10 km or so before they are warmed up. I have a C180 with 9G-tronic and I live in city center of Stuttgart with a lot of traffic lights...

I have a 2017 S205 200d with the OM626 engine. Yes it's partially Renault. I have my C almost 1 year and drove around 23000 km with it. Bought it with 101000 km and now it has around 124000 km.
I bought it from a Mercedes dealer so I have 2 year warranty on the car (Mercedes Benz Certified Car).
No issues ( knock on wood ) so far. Car drives smooth and IMO very reliable.
I'm very happy with it.
