C250d MPG

Hi guys,

I'm looking at buying a 2016 W205 C250d Premium Plus in the next week or so. I've test drove a couple of different ones but one thing that is putting me off is the MPG... I've only been on 5~ minute test drives around the area (mixture of 30-50mph roads) and I've I got 12mpg on one drive and 25mpg on the other drive. I know short journeys are not very good on MPG tests but seems a bit low (especially the 12mpg drive). I've not been about to do a longer test drive as dealers won't let me.

I drive about 5.5 miles to work which takes around 15 minutes. Mostly 30mph roads but there are a couple of short 60mph country roads. I don't really race my current car or this new merc I will buy so I will probably drive in eco or comfort.

So getting to the question...

What mpg do people who have one of these get on average driving short journeys like mine to work, driving around the city in traffic and even on the motorway.

Thank you guys!

Hi,
not sure about 250 but I have the 220d (2017).
a good drive ( like down the M40 ) i get 55 mpg
round town and a bit of dual carriageway i get 45 mpg
had the car 12 months and done 15k - check mpg every tank full .
220d with add blue only takes Ł45 to fill and i get a good 400+ from a tank.

Out of curiosity, why dont you go for a petrol engine? I have never driven or seen a diesel w205 in my country. Actually no diesel cars are allowed here for some reason. How is it like driving diesel? Same power as petrol?

Would not touch petrol - no torque.
diesel pulls like a train and has 30%+ more fuel economy.
try one 👍

Thanks for the response, I've seen on HonestJohn RealMPG website that the C250d can pull around 45mpg and a C220d can get around 50mpg. I won't be doing much motorway driving till September but after September I'll be doing a couple of trips a month 50~ miles each way down the motorway so I'll look forward to the good mpg returns then haha

I've looked at some petrol variants. Price wise they're super expensive on average compared to diesels and don't give off as good mpg returns or as good performance.

Diesels in a whole do have a lot more torque compared to petrols which really pulls you, is a different feel to a petrol in my opinion.

a smaller petrol engine has very little torque. A large v8 AMG is a totally different thing !
thirsty but powerful 😀

I guess diesel has higher pollution? That is why not allowed on some countries?

Depends what you call pollution. Diesel has low co2 but high noxx.
Reason why amg doesn't have diesels anymore is the lack of good sound. BMW and Audi provide fast diesels.
My 250d uses 6.5l/100km
