Clicking sound from dash

When I started my car a few times recently there was a clicking sound coming from inside the dash, to the left of the steering wheel. It almost sounds like plastic gears not meshing. It does not appear to be coming from the steering wheel itself. Is there a motorized/geared louver in the vent that could be causing this? Does anyone else have an experience with this? Thanks in advance.

I imagine it's the air vent to the left of the steering wheel. There's a noisy clicking mechanism in there. Dealer greases it, but it doesn't really stick as a fix.
