Hi there i just wanted to know If I change my led headlight for a replacement one on my w205 amg line does it require recoding for it to work ? If so is it only something I can only get done at a garage ?
also once I've taken the bumper off is it easy to removed the headlight it self ?
At a push you can just loosen the bumper at one side and get the light out but if you remove the bumper you lessen the chance of any paint damage. Lights are just plug and play. Test your new light first, just plug it in and check it works. A new light will be fine but if you've gotten a secondhand one it can easily be damaged inside, not being obvious externally.
Yeah just to second what chrisdean said, I was able to remove my headlight by loosening one side of the bumper but i did mess up some of the paint. It's really not a lot of work to pull the bumper off. There are only two or three bolts holding the headlight in. Nothing terribly difficult.
If you're replacing like for like it shouldn't need coding. I replaced my passenger side light and had no issue. (I have the full LED).
Thanks for the info.. to tell you the truth I'm pulling my hair out with this problem the driver side drl is much dimmer then the passenger side it really stands out so far I've changed the drl ballast and also the led control module under the light it self and there's been no change in the brightness of the drl.. is there anything else I can change before buying another headlight or could it be a electrical fault somewhere else.. ? The headlight looks fine from the out side and it's been like this since I bought the car..
I think the issue lies in the DRL itself. I don't know if you bought it from a dealer but they never resolved it for you?
I think it would be quite a bit of work to pull the lens off and just change the DRL itself but I suppose it's possible.
I bought it from a second hand car dealer 150miles from where I live it's still under warranty with them.. but to take the car there and leave it and get train ect and to arange a car to get to work and then more money to go and collect it.. that why I'm trying to sort it myself.. but I think I'll undo both driver and passenger led ballest and check to brightness on both while not connected to the headlight and see if they look the same and maybe check the volts while I'm at it.. before I buy another headlight..
Before you spend any more money, pull the bumper off and swap the headlights over to establish a defective headlight or a problem in the wiring loom. Are your replacement parts new or secondhand?
The parts I've bought are brand new.. I've thought about moving the headlight over to test it out. But would the wiring on the connector be backwards ?
Just a thought, when you use your indicators in normal circumstances it automatically dims the drl to make the indicator more noticeable, see what happens when you put your hazards on. Does the brighter one dim to match the other? That would suggest that the car thinks that the indicator is on in the dimmer light. Would that suggest a short circuit somewhere?
With the led unit removed but still plugged in can you see all 4 led's lit?
Yeah I did test this the other day.. and when I put indicator on the driver side it still dims and then lights back up when turned off.. when I changed the drl ballast module I checked and all 4 leds where lit.. I've been trying to find pictures of a tear down of the headlight try and find out what the loom from the led control unit connect to within the headlight it self but not found any as yet.
Just a quick update I ended buying a nice 2nd hand headlight and it's sorted the problem lucky for me the guy agreed I could test it on his doorstep and could see straight away the difference in the brightness of the drl. cost quite a bit for the light but now my OCD can clam down...
so the fault was within the headlight it self. I found out there is a small pcb inside the light maybe that is the issue with it..
But happy man again now hopefully it will help someone else and thanks for the help for trying different stuff to get it sorted
