C450 AMG - DWS 06 Rating Issue

So, I have been looking at getting either the Conti DWS 06, or the Michelin Pilot Sports A/S 3 Plus for my C450. The tires are supposed to be XL rated based on the sticker in the door jam. I have the stock 18" rims on my car. Id rather get the DWS 06's, but for the front tires, they do not make that size in the XL rating. Should I get them with the proper side and just have the XL rating in the rears, and SL in front? Or I could go up a size, and get the XL rating but am worried then about the 4matic system. Or do I just go with the Michelins which are rated and will fit correct...any advice is appreciated! Thanks

I bought Conti Extreme DWSs in 235/45 for the front and 255/40 in the rear of my C400 to get past the SL rating issue. Kept the ratios intact for 4Matic and only added 0.6 mph to the speedo. Worked fine and actually looked better (beefier) than the 225/45 / 245/40 combo in the wheel wells. Have used the original Conti Extremes, DWSs and DWS06s on 10-12 installations on 4 different cars over the years and have been pleased with them.

Only downside for me was that the rears got extremely noisy at around 70-75 mpm after approx 25K miles - first time I experienced the noise issue with any of my Conti Extremes. Because of the noise, I replaced the DWS06s with A/S3+s in the correct 225/45 / 245/40 sizes, but have only put 10K on them thanks to the COVID shutdowns, Reviews have indicated that the Michelins are actually a little louder than the Contis when new. Although that's been my experience as well, the noise has remained fairly constant and not objectionable since I've owned the A/S3+s. Hope this is helpful.

Gotcha, thank you! So having driven with both...which do you prefer? I do live in WI so have lots of snow for a few months of the year. I heard the contis are probably better for the snow. What are your thoughts overall?

Yes, the Contis handled snow quite well for the two winters I had them (2017-18 and 2018-19). I'm in the Washington, DC suburbs, (the "V" of DMV), and this past winter we only had one snowfall of any significance, and the Michelins were OK, but didn't seem to handle packed snow as well. Since you're in WI, I might go with the Contis - and even in the larger size, they're approx. $40 cheaper ($180 front / $178 rear) for a set of four.

But wait, there's more... Michelin must be preparing to introduce A/S4s, as Tire Rack has a closeout on the front A/3+s for $141 per tire (rears are still $190). If you're not THAT far north in Wisconsin and/or you have efficient snow removal, the closeout special might swing me in the Michelin direction. Both are excellent tires, although the Michelins have crisper steering response. Either way, you can't go wrong.

I would look for ones rated for M+S then
