DMP Ambient install w/ command 8.4
Hey guys. I’ve installed DMP car design’s 64 color ambient kit for w205s without original ambient. It works by plugging a OBD connector that allows you to control brightness and color from the steering wheel. Originally it worked as intended however when I disconnected the battery (to complete full installation) and restarted the car, the ambient light no longer turns on. I’m curious if anyone on the forum had success with this OBD type connector w/ 8.4 command system (2016). I tried this with two OBD connectors from DMP already and both no longer work but worked the first time.

I am having the same problem. After I received the 64 color ambient light kit from dmpcardesign I installed the unit and it worked perfectly. My car didn’t have ambient lights originally so I had to use the steering wheel to control the system. A couple of days ago I had to replace the battery in my car and the ambient light kit hasn’t worked since. It isn’t getting power through the OBD2 connector. The diagnostic port fuses are good and my code reader works fine. I have messaged Daniel from dmpcardesign and I’m waiting for his response. To be completely honest, they have helped me solve problems with their products in the past and I’m hoping they will be able to solve this problem for me as well. I will post back once he responds.

Glad Im not the only one dealing with this issue. Here’s some additional info that may help them resolve the problem.
They actually sent me two OBD modules. After the first one stopped working after I disconnected the battery and I plugged the second one in and it worked. I’m assuming after I disconnected the battery again the second one stopped working. So it looks like somehow disconnecting the battery is causing the issue.
I’ll post back with updates.

Good luck with your install! I just did mine a week ago, and took around an hour each door. A slight headache but it looks amazing.

DMP has determined that circuit board is burnt out and will ship a replacement in 10-14 working days. I’m pretty sure this will happen again and not solve the actual problem.

This would explain why removing battery power reverts the ECU back to the original state.
If that's the case I would expect this to be common amongst owners who perform this upgrade, and that it will most certainly happen again next time the car loses battery power.
