Lubricating the folding mirrors.

Does anyone have any guide or information on which locations to target for lubricating the folding mirror gears/parts after removing the covers?

I'd like to keep mine lubricated at least once a year to avoid any possible issues.

Hallo, I use a spray can of mineral oil, I fold the mirrors in and spray inbetween plastic hausing and mirror, I do this maybe 1 time a service (service A) to prevent any problems.

Sorry if my English is not good I am Swiss.

Is it necessary to remove the covers? I presume so to maximize coverage.

if you truly want to lube the motors, that’s going to require some disassembly and use of the proper lubrication. You may get by by using a “dry”graphite lubricant, the kind you spray or drip and the liquid evaporates and leaves behind some graphite, and dripping it down into the motor, but that would not be good as opening, cleaning and relubing. If you were just talking about lubricating the mirror housing friction surfaces, they shouldn’t be touching in a way that requires any sort of lubrication, only cleaning.

My driver's side mirror used to stutter and jerk when closing. Last week some guy hit it with his trailer and the whole thing exploded.

The mirror fell out (hanging by the wires), the cover ejected and whole assembly bent all the way forward.

I thought it was a total loss, but surprisingly everything snapped back together easily. Not even a scratch.

Kudos to Mercedes on this great design!

Oh, It also doesn't stutter anymore.

Seems like a "happy" ending

I don't see any pieces hitting. I sporadically hear a noise/see stutter. It goes away, then the left turn signal malfunctions. I took the cover off and hit it with compressed air but the turn signal malfunctions reoccurs every now and then.
The voltage regulator under passenger footwell was replaced by an independent dealer. I don't know what they put in. I have the U016887 code tied to pano roof. I wonder if it's all connected. Perhaps buy a new voltage regulator. So confused. FFS. LOL.

Turn signal malfunctions can be due to the inside connector being loose or the cover not snapped in properly.

It's very hard to get that connector lined up properly when replacing the cover.

TIP: You can unhook it from the plastic clip and insert it into the cover socket before replacing the cover. That's if your wire is long enough.

Mine is currently loose (after the accident) and I need to fix it.

I can squeeze the cover and the message goes away, but it comes back after a significant pothole.
