buying used - high miles with aftermarket warranty vs low miles?
Hi
I'm trying to buy 2016-2017 c300. Thinking of keeping the car for 2-4 years.
I am seeing 60,000km - 70,000km driven at C$28,000. The dealer quoted aftermarket warranty, Lubrico Superior, for about C$4000 for 4 years coverage.
With aftermarket warranty, the total price becomes C$32,000
An alternative is 30,000km driven at C$32,000. I am thinking I shouldn't need the aftermarket warranty if I buy such low-mileage car.
Also, only drive about 8000km per year. That means even after driving this car for 4 years, the km driven for this car would be only 62,000km,
So between the two, which one do you think will have lower cost of ownership for next 2-4 years?

Good day User 3127,
Hard to say really. I'm from the old school that favors low mileage for long term ownership, resale value and not to mention peace of mind that hopefully low mileage means the vehicle wasn't abused. In your case, since you don't plan on keeping this car for an extended period of time (2 to 4 years), I would not purchase the older vehicle with aftermarket warranty and would probably go with the newer lesser mile vehicle for the reasons I mentioned above. However, like all rules of thumb this one also depends on a multitude of factors. Because you only plan on keeping this car for a couple of years, I would opt for the lesser mile vehicle which might help later on with resale value and cost of ownership while you own vehicle. That being said, I would still purchase this vehicle from MB as a certified pre owned that way you will at least get the certified pre owned warranty which is different than the aftermarket warranty purchased after a factory warranty has expired. Buying certified covers you unlimited miles for a year I believe after purchased and it might just be your best option. My two cents
