2016 C300 Reverse Issues

There is also a gas smell inside the cabin which they diagnoses as the high pressure pump + the low pressure hose and damper that needs to be replaced.
Roughly $3k quoted to repair.
2. On Fuel Pump replacement - it may be a bit more affordable at a Independent - Mercedes OEM/Genuine-Bosch-Pump-New about $380 - VDO Pump also OE can be like $100 cheaper - there are China-Made/Bosch-Knockoff that are "OK" quality about $180-$200
Personally I have not seen a 2016 C300 Bosch/VDO pump "leak" - but I "guess" it "could happen" - best to get 2nd Independent opinion really - this is fringe to me
3. On the Fuel Lines - wear on these line(s) not uncommon - and can be best practice to replace all (3) - OE about $70 parts total - again, not "uncommon"
4. On the Brake issue - are your Parent's saying when they put it in R - and then give it a bit of throttle to Release - that is does NOT Release (as a bit of throttle is required for release).
Alternatively - if they use the Parking Brake Release - either before putting in R - or use Parking Brake Release after putting in R - are you saying in both instances with Release - that the brake is not releasing.
Frankly - the only thing that Switch-Off/Switch-On is doing - without exiting the car - is the Parking Brake is not reset as it would be exiting the car.
A "internal brake fault" would register a code - if someone is "guessing it has a code" - that is just a guess - and not fact of what the problem is.

1. 90k miles, Texas, normally parked outside, and they bought it brand new
2. Will have an independent mechanic check this.
3. Do you have any part numbers for these?
4. Here is the exact scenario:
- Get into car and press brake pedal + Start button
- Push lever into R and release brake pedal with expectation that the car reverses
- Car does not move???
- Press on the gas instead... AND THEN car moves in reverse
Are you saying this is completely normal?

The Parking Brake sets itself when they lock their C300 - it is NOT moving to R that releases that Parking Brake - it is either (1) "Pull the Parking Release Tab" lower dash to the left on the steering wheel with Best Practice done while their foot in on the brake BEFORE shifting to R - OR - (2) applying a bit of throttle after shifting to R. For "most" older-than-millennial's in this situation "normally" they will be more comfortable with (1).
With mileage - and with brake disc wear - and parking outside during Colder Winter temp's - the (#2) method can take a "bit" more throttle to release the E-Brake/Parking-Brake than it took just a few short month(s) ago and that probably generated their concern.
The fact there Service-Advisor/Dealer - or that Independent is "blowing smoke" on this Brake-Release issue - CERTAINLY MEANS there is "More Smoke" over the fuel smell thing - could be helped with fresh MB Fuel Cap ($16-$20) which could have been done in 5 minutes - a "different minor gas smell" can come from "Winter Blend" pump gas which in your area will "smell" a bit different - could be minor leakage/replace the fuel hoses (from memory there are 3 that total under $70) - unless the Fuel Pump visually shows a leak (unlikely).
