Weak main battery causes eco start/start to quit working
Just a PSA, my eco stop/start quit working a while ago and I didn't realize it. Recently got a battery warning on the dash. After I replaced the main battery the eco start starting working again. It must be a computer thing but it took a few trips after the battery was replaced before it started working again. Really didn't miss it tho...

I am still having an ECO start stop issue where light is green and car engine stops at a red stop light but has trouble sometimes starting back up. See all dashboard light and have to put into N or D and restart engine manually. This started occurring with error code P052E which was fixed with crankcase breather assembly, starter replacement (which also died), and a new battery from Advance Auto Parts which is an AGM 80AH battery which is slightly above OEM spec. The reason I replaced the battery is I was told by a German repair shop that battery voltage was low even though I personally replaced it 1.5 yr ago. Nonetheless I got warranty replacement and changed it myself again. My auxiliary battery was changed 2 yrs ago when I had an auxiliary battery malfunction message.
Did you get dealer install or register battery in xentry software or just replaced it? I did the battery replacement myself without any registration. I wonder if that is an issue. I hooked up to advanced OBD and see B219304 internal fault in battery sensor and U113E87 Communication with battery sensor has malfunction. Also OBD detected P1CE200 ECO start stop detected excessively low engine speed and B210F00 Input 'circuit 30' has malfunction. Should I just replace battery sensor on negative terminal or go to dealer and get battery registered or both?

I turned off Ecco start using star computer. Eco start only works when you press button to turn on. When you start car Eco start does not turn on automatically.

I just replaced the battery, I did not need the dealer to do any programming. I used a memory saver plugged into the OBD. I did not do anything else, just started the car and drove it after replacing the battery. About a day later the eco stop/start began working again. The first day I drove the car after replacing the battery it was really cold so that may be why the eco stop/start didn't work right after replacing the main battery.

There seem to be conflicting messages about the need for battery registration and resetting the counter in the software. Does it make a difference? Is it worth spending 1-2 hrs labor on it?
It seems the car works without doing it but maybe it undercharges the battery or can affect start/stop or cause other electronic issues. Anyone know for sure?
In a BMW, I'm told the car won't even start without registering the battery.

If after installing battery and you do not do registration and resetting the counter in software you will have ongoing electronic issues. Mercedes Benz electronics slow down after low charge alert. You need to reset battery counter to enable electronics to run at 100%.

Resetting the battery counter does not seem to affect the working of the car or any electrical systems. There is a counter that tracks the total charge throughput through the battery that can be reset when you change the battery but the charging parameters seem to be determined actively by the battery sensor.
I would not worry about not resetting the counter t if you don't have access to it or have to go to the dealer to replace the battery vs. find a good AGM battery.
Similarly, there is a counter tracking the number of times your car has started but again that does not affect the working of the car. You can reset if you put a new starter but just keeps track of how many times the starter was used.
