Trading E for C

I was thinking of trading my 2017 E class in on a new 2021 W205. Was wondering if the price of W205's will come down when they release the W206? Maybe I should wait until then?

If you’ve looked at dealership lots lately you probably noticed the lack of new vehicles. I wouldn’t count on any significant discounts on anything.

You could probably get a good deal on any in-dealer cars. Its about finding the one you want.
The other option is to get a 'nearly new' - I usually buy cars that are 6-12 months old, it saves a massive chunk of cash (although it is really nice to get a 'new new' car

You should have bought a last edition model. They are always packed with options for the price of base model and you can be sure no kiddie fault are left in the model

Yeah, don't expect many discounts for a while. The current semiconductor shortage that is hammering automobile productions is predicted to last for another 1-2 years, and that's assuming the rest of the world is gonna get a handle on the pandemic. The USA may have mostly turned the corner thanks to the vaccination efforts, but the rest of the world is still in the middle of it, and are trying to figure out how to get back to normal w/o a high enough immunity among the population. Basically, inventories won't get back to pre-pandemic levels any time soon and allocations will be tight. The good news is that used car prices are at an all time high due to the low inventories, so you could probably get a very good price on your trade to make up for the lack of discounts on the new vehicle if you really wanna go down that route. Can't be picky with the specs, though, as ordering cars may be limited and not all options may be available. There are reports of folks getting their cars w/o all the ordered options as the factory drops options they can't fulfill due to parts shortages instead of delaying the production of the cars altogether.

A C class is a small sacrifice in comfort compared to an E, I have driven them as a loaner. I rarely have back seat passengers so that's not a problem for me. A C has better handling and in the case of a base model C versus a base model E it has better performance. I love my E class but the mileage is getting up there, and its value is a lot higher now than it was just a few months ago. A C class will fit my budget better anyways. I would imagine since the W205 is near the end of its production run that all the bugs have been ironed out whereas my E class was from the start of the W213 run.

Aw I was thinking you come from a 212.
From a 213 to a 205 is big step down imo.
Cabin quality mainly but also for a car the size of the 205 you have not much room even in front. For me no problem since im only 1m78 but for people that are bigger I can't recommend the 205.

<!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}-->I think it's better to wait for the w206 to come out and buy it. I have seen videos of it and asked knowledgeable people if it is worth the money. It will have a vast amount of options that past models didn't have. It's a whole new Mercedes that changes the way the entire brand is viewed. It's worth saving up some money and buying this particular one because you won't feel much of a difference when upgrading to the w205. In any case, the choice is yours. I want to buy precisely w206. Significantly I am now enrolled in trading school at https://www.onlytradeschools.com/, so my finances will increase very soon

I test driven multiple W213 and even the C238 (basically the coupe) and always prefer the E better over the C (other than body roll). The interior quality is just night and day in my opinion although I would expect mechanical quality to be on par as the C-class (W205), that is despite me personally owning a W205 pre-facelift and had many W205 facelift loaners. I will take the exhaust note of my car over any W213 though.

OP, if you do appreciate the smaller size but not as robustly built (interior material wise) as the W213, you can't go wrong with the C, it is more nimble no doubt but nothing beats how nimble the C118 generation CLA is especially amg branded models (if for any reason you are cross shopping that vehicle, make sure to get the ride control for a more comfort drive when you are in a relaxed mode)

maxauthor18, that is a nice suggestion but then first generation vehicles may or may not have glitches that needs to be sorted out throughout the generation's life cycle, otherwise I agree, the W206 is a wonderful place to be in. Good luck and hope your dream comes true with the W206.
