W205 C200 Chirping Noise From Engine
Hi guys. I just got my W205 1.5L 2019 C200 back in April. Loving it so far, but as time goes I feel like I hear and discover more things about it which I feel I've not noticed before haha
My question is regarding this chirping noise I hear now from the engine. It's quite loud at idle and can also hear it from inside the car.
I'm attaching a video link with the sound I'm hearing: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1veP...ew?usp=sharing
I've taken it to the dealership where I got the car from and they said it's expected noise as they compared it with another car...Not sure if I believe that to be honest. What do you guys think?
Thanks,
David

C200 AMG line 2015 2L engine. I hear your engine and yes it is loud i am not sure what is this sound. Is your car under warranty if yes then the dealer will say oh yes its normal. Regardless, i find it much louder than mine.
Same here
There is the normal engine sound and there is another ticking noise.
You can hear it very clearly, the ticking sound, when i start the car after parked for a long time, like in the morning. It goes away after like 10 to 15 mins.
So the dealer told me that the sound of this model, c200 2019 in my case, is normal cause the ticking noise was gone

Am almost sure that the noise specially in the morning is not normal.
Maybe this is the case for you.

Same noise
I have the same noise on my 2019 c300 coupe. I have noticed it before but I always wondered if maybe it was a loose pulley or something. Thanks for the video by the way. Mine is still under warranty as well. Have you figured it out? Has the “chirping” always been there and it’s getting worse?
It's like a chirping noise, I noticed when I am in drive/ gear I don't hear it, or at least it is much more muted. It sounds exactly like the video in this thread. Wonder if it's just normal then.

Getting looking at for the same noise
Taking mine in to an independent shop tomorrow to diagnose, it’s seems to be getting more noticeable (could be in my head), it does change pitch when I turn the AC on so it’s probably belt or pulley related as someone else suggested. That or it's legit nothing and I'm being paranoid. I’ll keep you posted.

I'm sure there is.
A little update, indi mechanic didn't see any issues, sprayed some stuff on the belts and pulleys. Took the engine cover off and it almost sounds like the noise is coming from the top. He said he definitely hears the noise but thinks it may just be a normal sound of the engine.... I have an appointment at the dealership but I am debating taking it in, the dealership in my area kind of sucks and I'm sure they will want to charge me for the inspection.

Update: Came from the 2nd dealership, just now. They tested it with a cold motor and it is what it is= Product feature,by design :"Cant change cant help". Also had the chance to test it on a C200 in the occassion, guess what? Same chirping noise.
Update for anyone still reading the thread or who’s had that annoying chirping, I went to the dealer (out of warranty) and after getting the tech to hear the noise and guiding them to the videos from OP they agreed the sound was there and was not normal.
After they did some testing they pin-pointed it to (like a few suggested) the timing chain tensioner. They also replaced the guides (left and right) as well as a gasket. It wasn’t a crazy job and parts were around 200 but total with labor it was just over 1k. I guess that isn’t terrible but I got the car back and the noise is gone, maybe it’s just me but it also sounds a bit quieter. I’m just glad that noise is finally gone. I suggest if you have that chirping and you are under warranty get it done before it runs out.

I have the exact same chirping sound at 28K miles these 1.5L engines are so crap😭Literally viewed 5 of these around my area and all have turbo rattle for a few secs and then chirping sound on idle. Thanks for the update though👍🏽Do you reckon there is any danger to the engine in not getting the timing chain tensioner replaced?

Per the dealer if left alone it could potentially wear out the guides and the chain may come out of alignment. It’s not the biggest deal but it should be fixed before it gets to that point. This should be covered under warranty though. I was just out of warranty, just happy I got it done, the noise alone made me want to get rid of it. Hopefully it lasts a long time!

My neighbor's 20 year old Rav4 sounds like a Swiss watch compare to yours or my C300.
