Differential whine - Decisions

Hi All,

My 2018 c300 4Matic has developed what I believe to be a whine or drone from my differential at 36,000 miles. The noise is a steady hum that starts at about 30 mph and gets progressively louder at higher speed. At first I thought it was my exhaust. But the noise dissipates under 30 mph. I have checked my tires and all seems to look normal. I have not got this diagnosed yet, but I am suspecting it could be the differential.
Of course my factory warranty has ended just last month and this problem has presented itself at the most opportune time. With the current climate of used cars fetching crazy prices I decided to get some offers. Low and behold it looks like I can get just about what I have paid for the car in February. I am thinking this may be the route to go, because quite frankly the differential going at 36k is quite a bit of a turnoff.
What says the internet?

Common (at least on the forums) Please see the thread linked:

However, this sound appeared on those cars when new, you said your vehicle developed this whining or droning noise just recently...

I started noticing mine (2017 C43) during one winter. I notice the sound is much more audible the colder the temperatures are. Is the noise you are experiencing dependent on the outside temperature, humidity, road (rough like construction or smooth like fresh paved roads)?

Is your plan to fix the car then sell it? I don't think anyone would want to buy it as is. So let us wait to see what is the issue maybe its minor. And yes I agree its turnoff for such a low mileage.

I got rid of it. Sold it for what I paid for it in april. and I put almost 15k on the clock. Between this issue, My alternate battery, and all the creaks and rattles I have been chasing, I think I made a good move.
