2016 C300 Parking brake will NOT release automatically

I have a 2016 C300 and the parking brake will engage fine when parked. But, it will NOT automatically disengage when I start to drive the car - either in D or R. Every time, I have to manually pull the switch to disengage the parking brake. Anyone has similar issue or know what I need to do to get this fixed? As a friend of mine has a 2018 C300 and he can just start to drive and the parking brake will disengage automatically.

Any help will be appreciated. Cheers.

Are you wearing your seatbelt? It will only automatically release if you click in the seatbelt before driving off.

I had the same issue. I got so fed up with the whole automatic parking brake locking up preventing me from driving that i just coded it out. Not it only engages when i press the switch like a manual car.

I just tested. Even with seatbelt clicked in, the parking brake will NOT automatically disengage. Could it be some sensor that is prevent it from disengage?

not sure if this makes a difference but try putting on your seat belt first then start the ignition/engine then put it in drive.

That doesn't make a difference for me, but the seatbelt has to be on before putting it in gear. The parking brake disengages automatically as soon as the transmission is put in gear, provided the seatbelt is on at that point.

Not unless you also get constant warnings to put on your seatbelt despite it being on. It's the same sensor that detects if you are wearing your seatbelt. However, as I said above, you have to be wearing the seatbelt before you put it in gear.

MY15 didn't release the parking brake until you gave it enough gas, the gear display in the instrument cluster was also different compared to newer models (not talking about facelifted ones either), mine was completely transparent whereas MY17/18 had a semi-transparent gray rectangles around the PRDN letters so something was different in those models.

OP it won't be easy to diagnose it unless it's throwing a code, get a MB specific reader and see if you have any stored/current codes.

Good point. It worked like that in my previous car, so maybe that's OP's issue as well. They might not be giving enough gas for the parking brake to release. I actually found the sensation a bit awkward and generally released the parking brake manually for a smoother start. Not sure at what point MB changed the implementation. My C63 is a FL, so my perspective is based on the most recent models. It's been a while since I drove a PFL.
