Steering Wheel Suddenly off Center

Steering Wheel Suddenly off Center
First off, the car does not need an alignment, it drives straight as an arrow.
I went to the store yesterday and all was fine. When I went to leave, I noticed the car was pulling to the left. My first thought was a flat front left tire. Coincidentally, the parking lot I was in is being developed with mini strip mall buildings so I thought I ran over something. I moved the car to a safe spot and got out to check. All tires fine. I went a bit further to another parking lot, all the while fighting to keep the car straight. Went in to get some things and came out.
I thought I would check to see if there was something visible broken like a tie rod end. Cranked the wheel hard left and then right, checking to see what I could by the wheel and everything seemed ok. After I started on my way, the steering wheel was back to center and the car was driving straight again.
Any ideas what may have happened?

Ya, I was thinking this afternoon that I'm hoping there wasn't some kind of binding of the front transaxle or maybe bad traction control data being sent to the front brakes.

I would take it to MB. It sounds very serious and not safe. I was first thinking one way but when you said that it fixed itself; I then dropped what I was thinking and my thoughts turned to dangerous.
PS. Did you ever take the steering wheel off?

did you happen to check tire pressure through the cars menus? I attempted this but all get is the run flat indicator active msg and the option to reset but it won't let me. also after reading your post just drove the car around the block and now it drives fine but I still have same messages and still can't reset.
