I'm wondering if there is anything that can be done about the corrosion on the 3 aluminium parts at the front of the engine bay as shown in the attached photo. I've seen a lot of C-Classes like this when I was out purchasing mine and it's just a little bit unfortunate because it looks dirty, but it of course doesn't clean off.
Has anyone successfully rejuvenated these parts or is it not a path worth going down?
“Upper Tie Bar” or “205-620-42-01”. OEM is not cheap, but aftermarket made in China cannot be trusted. Or, you may sand down the aluminum oxidation. When you replace it, replace only the upper aluminium panel, keep the aluminium block under the panel.
Thank you! Good to know what to call it rather than "alu bits" I probably wouldn't replace it unless it became somehow unsafe levels of corrosion since only the mechanics will really see it. I might have to try some abrasives at some point and see what happens.
I haven't tried anything yet besides cleaning it (I was doing the rest of the engine bay and knew it was unlikely to help). Just trying to get some ideas as to how and if this can be tackled or if it's not really worth it. Never thought I'd have appreciated a plastic cover over metal like this lol.
