Damaged side mirror

I was pulling in a garbage can and apparently I caught the side mirror and pulled it forward, toward the front of the car. I didn't see any physical damage, but the mirror will not click back into its natural position. When it attempts the power fold, the mirror moves out too far and cant come in all the way.

Any suggestions? the mirror assembly is about $1k:

However, is it possible to just replace the mirror drive motor?

looks like the motor works fine, it just not folding and unfolding to correct position. when its folded out can you physically move/ force the mirror back to correct position?

I haven't had my mirror caps off in ages and can't remember how the mechanism works but seems like it just got pulled out of position and needs to be put back.

Without risking breaking my own mirror, I thought there is a safety mechanism that lets the mirror flip forward out of the way if it gets caught on something while backing up, same if pushed in by force if caught when driving forward. When this happens, you should just be able to push it back to its normal position. It should snap right back unless something broke.

You can just push the window mirror back into position. It will not break anything if it was pushed the other way.
