Question about 5 second apparent overheating
I had a question hoping someone can help out.
So I have a 2016 W205, been with me since end of 2017, looked after like a baby with routine checks oil changes etc etc. Besides the usual repair work and parts needed as cars age, nothing crazy. Car has never overheated since I owned it.
Today I was driving from a clinic and a few min later, a red warning came up saying check coolant. I pulled over immediately (small by road) and turned the car off as the gauge showed on red. After two min turned it back on, and no error message and the temp gauge sat at where it always is. So I cautiously drove to a gas station slowly about 3 min away with my eyes on the gauge, never moved.
The mechanic said coolant level slightly low and noticed it little brown and said likely one of the oil coolers leaking and mixing, he filled it up and car was fine, drove 15 min to the garage and left it. They called and said oil coolers need to be changed and radiator and tank while they have it open and change coolant of course.
He mentioned hopefully not a head gasket issue, i said do the pressure test first then, but honestly it is the first time the gauge was at red and only 5-6 seconds at that luckily. So in your experience could the head gasket blow so fast in 5 secs? Jeez hope not lol.
