Should I buy a W205 with a M274

My W210 finally died and after researching various replacements I am leaning towards a 2015 W205 C300. But it falls within the engine number range, for the M274, according to a service bulletin that has wrist pin / #1 piston problems, big time.
I was able to contact the original Mercedes dealer who did all the service and they confirmed that at some point they replaced the crankcase but no mention of wrist pins or pistons.
Why would the crankcase need to be replaced on that engine or is that how they would change the wrist pins and pistons ?
Anyone have any insight.
Thanks

My condolences for the passing of your W210 (lol).

I owned a 2015 C300 for about 5 years, from 20K miles to 52K miles. I loved the car and overall is one of the best cars I've owned. It never broke down or left me stranded. The only problems I had the whole time was an Auxiliary Battery PCB, leaking windshield washer reservoir and a CV joint. Again, a great car.

However, my enjoyment of the car was clouded by the thoughts of the M274 issues you are aware of. Granted there are many, many more good M274's than bad ones, but it's still a risk of expensive engine failure.

I would not recommend to anyone to buy anything with the M274 engine for these reasons. If it is an acceptable risk to you, then go for it and hope you get one of the good ones.

The M274 issues ultimately got in my head and I had to jump ship. If it's helpful to you, here's the end of my C300 story:

Best of luck to you!

Are you aware that the crankcase is the engine block? Why did they replace the engine block? Or was the entire engine replaced?

I would not buy any MB with a four cylinder engine. These engines are junk. Reasons and backup for this statement is easily found on this site from dozens of owners who have experienced financial harm and inconvenience.

Just don’t do it.

Buy it if you are OK with having to replace the whole engine when the piston breaks down the road.

If you can afford it get a C400 or a C43. I would not recommend buying any car with the 2.0L Turbo.

Thanks for the advice. I will take it and look at the C400.......or Lexus maybe Genesis.
I am so gun shy with Mercedes now their many engine issues. Thanks
