Could my keyless go fob codes be captured with continuous attempts ?
18’ c300 owner here with 36,000km. As I understand with the keyless go every time you walk up to the vehicle any action you perform with the fob will send some sort of code to the car to perform the action.
E.g unlock, start, lock, open trunk.
I also understand each time you double tap the lock button it disables keyless go, which is a security answer to cloned keys or relay theft when attackers are close to the fob and vehicle.
My question is; given these codes are different every time you unlock the door or start the engine with keyless go, if someone continuously timed it and met you at your vehicle (stalked for example), for when you unlocked the car (with keyless go disabled which re-enables it when a button is pressed) then started the car with the fob, if they continuously met you beside you car and used some device to capture the codes; could they in theory capture all of the unique codes the key sends to the car and eventually have enough codes to steal with a cloned key ?
how unique are the codes?
does it cycle through let’s say 10 codes or so ?
couple odd things have happened and Im not sure if I fully trust this car to keep thieves out even with keyless go disabled every time I leave the vehicle.
with the same 2 people constantly appearing either when I’m leaving or retuning to my condo building I’m suspicious if a theft is brewing here.
Thanks in advance !
great car otherwise, but sometimes the technology does weird stuff- like a no start sometimes ? Either way, thanks
