Squeaking noise from Steering wheel

I have had my 2018 Mercedes Benz c300 base sedan since 2021. Whenever I start driving my car for the first time for the day, the car is pretty quiet. After about 30 minutes of driving the steering wheel starts to make a squeaking noise everytime I turn the sterring wheel either left or right. If I stop the car and turn off engine, the steeribf still squeaks. If I leave the car off for an hour or so, when I turn it back on , no squeaking until after 20-30 minutes of driving. I have sprayed wd40 on the steering wheel column. Does anyone have an idea of what is causing this to happen? Attached a small video of the noise from the steering wheel.

That is a relatively common problem, all you need to do is grease the rubber beneath the steering wheel (not quite sure how to explain the location but if I can find a video for you I will post it here). If that doesn't work, spray from the engine bay directly at the column, the spray will work its way down to the rubber that squeaks.

As for if the sound is coming from outside the vehicle, it may be the ball joint, you could try washing the car and see if it stops if not you you can try greasing it or just replace it altogether.

sorry to bring back an old thread, did you manage to get it fixed? I've had the same issue, change a new steering column and the sound is still there after driving for approximately 40mins. weird thing is it happens only when it's hot.

have tried greasing from the cabin near the footwell, have yet to try greasing it from the engine bay. is the area open and easy to detect?

Sorry I missed your reply, yes it is relatively easy to access depending on the size of the engine resulting in how much room you have to work with but I mean, it has been a year, perhaps you got it resolved now?
