Driver assistance

As for lane keep assist, there are two versions. There's lane keep assist and then there's active lane keep assist. The former is standard and only vibrates the steering wheel if you cross a lane marker w/o turn signals. The latter is part of the driver assistance package and will actively steer the car back into its lane using selective brake application. The active steering assist is a separate system that works in conjunction with DISTRONIC and is also only there if the vehicle is equipped with the driver assistance package.
Basically, most safety systems are passive, unless you get the driver assistance package and then they become active. Same for blind spot assist. The standard one is passive and only lights up in the mirrors and alerts acoustically, whereas with the driver assistance package it becomes active blind spot assist, which steers the car back if you attempt to change lanes and the adjacent lane is occupied.
