C220 d vibrations while driving
New to the forum as I have bought a C220 d MY 2016. Have tried to search different forums for any similar problems that I experience, but have not found what I'm looking for.
Long story short, I test drove the car upon purchase and detected some vibrations in the car at all speeds. They did seem to get better as I was driving, so I was sure it was only tire vibrations from the car being unused.
I soon noticed that the vibrations did not disappear. I've tried below without any improvement:
- Tried two different set of wheels
- Four wheel alignment done
- Had a mechanic inspect motor mounts, drive train and bushings for the cause. Only issue found was that the front lower control arm bushings seem to be in bad shape. These will be replaced, but according to the mechanic, these kind of vibrations are typically not associated with control arms.
Here is what I experience:
- Vibrations over 70km/h. At all speeds above 70. It seems to vibrate faster the faster you drive.
- Vibrations are not RPM or gear related, they feel the same even in Neutral gear.
- I can feel similar vibrations when the car is cold and downshifts, just before the lower gear engages. This is only felt when letting the RPM drop to around 1000 RPM. And this goes away when the car has warmed up.
- Vibrations does not seem to get worse with throttle, braking or coasting.
- As a bonus, I should mention that I experience that shiftng between P/N to D or R seems quite harsh. I am prepared to feel the new gear engage, but this feels like the entire car is jumping.
What's your best guess? I'm still considering replacing the engine/transmission mounts. But I'm not sure that is a likely reason,
Thanks in advance!
