New rear rotors installed don't have the grey paint coating
I just had new rear rotors installed at the dealer and noticed they don't have the grey coating as when brand new in the photo. Does anyone know why this is? Is it normal for the dealer to remove that coating?
That coating is automatically removed as soon as the brakes are used. It gets scraped off by the pads. It's only a surface coating and it's quickly removed where the pads touch the rotors from the friction. Regular use of the brakes will scrape of surface rust from where the pads make contact, so that coating is intended to keep the other parts of the rotor free of rust.

I'm not exactly sure what value your sarcastic snarky comment adds to the discussion? I'm personally aware of certain rotors that have paint coatings that aren't meant to come off immediately after a couple braking applications, so not sure why my question is so crazy to you.
