"Factory reset" the ECU
I've been reading this forum for a long time. While it's usually not difficult to find answers in existing threads, I couldn't find a solid answer for this specific issue.
My 2016 W205 220d has been modified with some kind of ECU tuning. I'm not sure of the exact details, but I think the car has gained some extra power and torque from a "stage 1" tuning. The adblue system has also been deactivated.
I asked a local MB mechanic if it would be possible to reprogram the car back to its original factory state, including reactivating the adblue system. They told me that while they can see that the car's ECU (and possibly other components) has been modified, they can't do anything about it. They suggested the only way to fix this is to buy a completely new ECU module, which was quite a surprise to me due to the cost.
I'm aware that reactivating the adblue system might require replacing some components, but that's not my main concern. I'm mostly interested in understanding my options: do I really need a new ECU module to return the car to its "factory state," or is there an easier (and cheaper) way to reset the car's programming?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So, it's quite normal for a dealer to tell you to buy another ECU as yours is identified by the dealer Xentry with the latest SW already installed because the Xentry system only check SW version not the manipulated content. And dealer Xentry doesn't have the option to re-write the same SW. They can only upload a newer version.
But, this is a 10 minute job with DTS Monaco software that can do the job with any interface even with a 20$ Openport. DTS will let you upload any SW version.
