C63 to go 4 Cylinder in 2021 (W206)

C63 with 476 HP and over 500 in S trim. AMG build engine 48V hybrid).
This would be a pretty radical change if this is happening

I’ll be interested how this develops...
Now, the first Erlkönig shots of the testing of the new C-Class (W206) have emerged.
It is set on a further developed rear-wheel drive platform. New is autonomous driving to Level 3 (debut in the new S-Class V223 May 2020) and the use of MBUX. The delivery starts from March 2021.
While the current in contrast to the competitors still a V8 of AMG is used in the C 63, should be used in the W206, from March 2021 from the tape, only 4-cylinder. Presumably, all engines will have a 48 volt mild hybrid system. This will then also apply to the OM654 diesel.
But AMG does not have a 6-cylinder one-man-one engine. The M256, which is used in the 53er entry-performance models, will be built by Mercedes in Stuttgart Untertürkheim and will also be used in the S 500. He is slightly sportier applied in the 53er models, but does just as much as the production version (435 + 22 hp).
As a result, AMG will build the new C 63 AMG on a proprietary 4-cylinder in 2021. While in the new A 45 AMG in the S-variant 422 hp are produced, the 4-cylinder in the C 63 AMG 476 hp and provide in the S version easily over 500 hp. Whether it is a mild hybrid with 48 volts or a real high-voltage plug-in hybrid device is not clear.
In general, the plug-in hybrid battery with higher energy density will be better integrated in the new C-Class and will enable an electric range of around 100 km.
If the W206 gets a 6-cylinder or a 4, sorry I'm out. Here's to hoping the bigger models will keep the V8.
Agree and have stated it before, the 205 series post mid life update AMG range is the best V8 C Class ever and also the last it's the one to have if you love the combination of the 205 shape and V8 engine,
The bigger models are definitely retaining the V8 and even going proper hi po PHEV in the S and GT Classes.
It's no secret the 73 nameplate has emerged for these.
Also, when it comes to the whole V8 issue, I look at it no differently than what all the pickup truck guys have been going through the last few years trying to accept the Ford EcoBoost V6 and the new Silverado inline-4. That "I have to get the V8" and/or "I miss that V8 sound" is so ingrained into the typical buyers that it's hard to shake from their perspective.
I am so confused.
But to be fair.. I will prob never buy another ICE car again, voluntarily. So 4cyl/6/8/12 won't matter to me.
If they actually do put a v4 it would have to be some serious F1 tech in there to keep the customer base interested. I personally think we will see a inline 6 hybrid.

Hopefully fuel won't run out for the life term of current generations and irrespective of the EV outcome, we'll have ICE vehicles to enjoy
