Does anyone know why some of the C300s (Pinnacle and Exclusive) have the nice looking metal speaker grilles and others are a solid black? Is it interior color dependent?

It means it's the base audio system.
The metal covers are for the 3d surround Brumester audio system.
Unfortunately some top trim levels are downgraded to the base audio system because of chip shortage. Apparently Mercedes offers a discount for the missing options.
Wow. This is quite unfortunate. I was shopping for a new C300 too. But, will wait until next year. I also think Mercedes shouldn't be taking orders and changing it mid-stream without giving buyers the option to cancel their orders. The same thing is happening on the S-class forum.
Hopefully mine will be delivered with one. The dealership associate told me he will have a confirmed list of options on my build soon. At that point I will still be able to cancel the order if I decide to do so.
