That camera is used for active lane assist and other features for driver assistance package. Even though you don’t have the package, some hardware is present. You don’t have the dashcam camera, which would be where the square cap is.
MB actually turns off lane keep assist through software even though your car is fully capable of doing it. You can have a coder activate the feature with no other hardware than an ENET cable and computer.
